Narrative:

Anticipated using a southwest runway and started 2 of 3 engines. We were actually cleared to a northwest runway considerably closer. Several turns were made to get in position for the intersection takeoff on this runway (32L at T1 in chicago). In the process of getting 34D engine started and being cleared for takeoff while approaching the runway and performing the takeoff checklist, I got too hurried. At one point, I had to check some items in the cockpit while moving forward. I made the turn onto the runway to take off. Tower advised that I was at T2 instead of T1 (see map on reverse), did I want to continue? I could see the takeoff distance was only lessened by a couple hundred feet and we were very light so I opted to continue. The takeoff was made without delay and without problem. Estimated loss of runway available at the point where I started takeoff entering from T2 is 400'. My total experience flying as captain was about 60 hours at this time callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter stated that he had anticipated a long taxi for takeoff runway and that another runway was assigned after departing ramp. He cites his low time as PIC (60 hours) at the time and also the fact that he should have delayed his taxi to give more attention to checklists, etc. The 3RD engine would have been started at the gate had he known it was to be a short taxi. No known company or other agency action anticipated on this event.

Title: ACR INTERSECTION TKOF. TKOF DATA NOT AVAILABLE.

Narrative: ANTICIPATED USING A SW RWY AND STARTED 2 OF 3 ENGINES. WE WERE ACTUALLY CLRED TO A NW RWY CONSIDERABLY CLOSER. SEVERAL TURNS WERE MADE TO GET IN POSITION FOR THE INTXN TKOF ON THIS RWY (32L AT T1 IN CHICAGO). IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING 34D ENGINE STARTED AND BEING CLRED FOR TKOF WHILE APCHING THE RWY AND PERFORMING THE TKOF CHECKLIST, I GOT TOO HURRIED. AT ONE POINT, I HAD TO CHECK SOME ITEMS IN THE COCKPIT WHILE MOVING FORWARD. I MADE THE TURN ONTO THE RWY TO TAKE OFF. TWR ADVISED THAT I WAS AT T2 INSTEAD OF T1 (SEE MAP ON REVERSE), DID I WANT TO CONTINUE? I COULD SEE THE TKOF DISTANCE WAS ONLY LESSENED BY A COUPLE HUNDRED FEET AND WE WERE VERY LIGHT SO I OPTED TO CONTINUE. THE TKOF WAS MADE WITHOUT DELAY AND WITHOUT PROBLEM. ESTIMATED LOSS OF RWY AVAILABLE AT THE POINT WHERE I STARTED TKOF ENTERING FROM T2 IS 400'. MY TOTAL EXPERIENCE FLYING AS CAPT WAS ABOUT 60 HRS AT THIS TIME CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH REPORTER REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: REPORTER STATED THAT HE HAD ANTICIPATED A LONG TAXI FOR TKOF RWY AND THAT ANOTHER RWY WAS ASSIGNED AFTER DEPARTING RAMP. HE CITES HIS LOW TIME AS PIC (60 HRS) AT THE TIME AND ALSO THE FACT THAT HE SHOULD HAVE DELAYED HIS TAXI TO GIVE MORE ATTN TO CHECKLISTS, ETC. THE 3RD ENGINE WOULD HAVE BEEN STARTED AT THE GATE HAD HE KNOWN IT WAS TO BE A SHORT TAXI. NO KNOWN COMPANY OR OTHER AGENCY ACTION ANTICIPATED ON THIS EVENT.
