Narrative:

Air carrier X was climbing out on departure and advised he had just climbed through the altitude of air carrier Y. I was working both aircraft. The air carrier Y was established on an arwy southbound at 6000'. Air carrier X was eastbound approximately 3 mi west of the air carrier Y climbing out of 7800'. I assumed the air carrier X would not be a factor due to rate of climb and climbed the aircraft to 15000'. A short time later air carrier X advised he had climbed through the altitude of air carrier Y. The aircraft asked me to mark the tapes and I replied affirmative. If I had waited 1 or 2 mi before climbing it would have been no factor. I intend in the future not to rely on my judgement of climb rates but to just wait until I see the targets pass.

Title: ACR WAS ISSUED A CLIMB THROUGH ALT OF ANOTHER ACFT RESULTING IN LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION.

Narrative: ACR X WAS CLBING OUT ON DEP AND ADVISED HE HAD JUST CLBED THROUGH THE ALT OF ACR Y. I WAS WORKING BOTH ACFT. THE ACR Y WAS ESTABLISHED ON AN ARWY SBND AT 6000'. ACR X WAS EBND APPROX 3 MI W OF THE ACR Y CLBING OUT OF 7800'. I ASSUMED THE ACR X WOULD NOT BE A FACTOR DUE TO RATE OF CLB AND CLBED THE ACFT TO 15000'. A SHORT TIME LATER ACR X ADVISED HE HAD CLBED THROUGH THE ALT OF ACR Y. THE ACFT ASKED ME TO MARK THE TAPES AND I REPLIED AFFIRMATIVE. IF I HAD WAITED 1 OR 2 MI BEFORE CLBING IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NO FACTOR. I INTEND IN THE FUTURE NOT TO RELY ON MY JUDGEMENT OF CLB RATES BUT TO JUST WAIT UNTIL I SEE THE TARGETS PASS.
