Narrative:

Dsv supports sailplane activity. Because of the layout of the airport, the sailplanes normally operate on the grass, parallel and east of runway 32. Up to the described event, I had seen no sailplanes or tows operating although there was activity visible on the ground indicating that they were operating or were intending on operating. As I held short of 36, I scanned the pattern and saw no additional aircraft. The radio did not indicate any activity. I specifically looked at the collection of sailplanes on the far side of the end of 32 and saw that there was a tow plane there, but it was not moving. From that distance I did not notice whether its engine was running or whether a sailplane was attached to it. I announced my departure on 36, rolled onto the runway, and west/O stopping started my takeoff roll. My attention was then straight ahead. Just at or after I rotated, I must have seen something out of the corner of my eye as I glanced right and saw the tow plane slightly behind abeam also on its takeoff roll. The picture I saw as I remember it was of looking down slightly on its wings, it was a high-wing plane, at very roughly 300' horizontal distance. I therefore assume that I was just airborne at the time. It was either still on the ground or just above the ground. I did not see a sailplane but I assumed that one was there. I went into a maximum angle climb and made a slight turn to the left to delay the intersection of our paths. I assume that I passed above him between 100 and 200'. In the maximum angle climb confign in a low wing airplane, I could not see below me. I continued in this attitude until I had reached approximately 500' AGL. I then reconfigured for a maximum rate climb and looked to my left where I saw the tow plane and its tow about 1/4 mi away operating normally. At no time during this event did I hear any radio communications from the tow plane. I am not even sure that he was aware of the situation. Shortly afterward,I thought I did hear dsv unicom announce that the active runway was 32, but it was garbled.

Title: CLOSE PROX GA-SMA ON TKOF ROLL FROM NON TWR ARPT AND GA-SMA TOW PLANE OPERATING ON INTERSECTING RWY.

Narrative: DSV SUPPORTS SAILPLANE ACTIVITY. BECAUSE OF THE LAYOUT OF THE ARPT, THE SAILPLANES NORMALLY OPERATE ON THE GRASS, PARALLEL AND E OF RWY 32. UP TO THE DESCRIBED EVENT, I HAD SEEN NO SAILPLANES OR TOWS OPERATING ALTHOUGH THERE WAS ACTIVITY VISIBLE ON THE GND INDICATING THAT THEY WERE OPERATING OR WERE INTENDING ON OPERATING. AS I HELD SHORT OF 36, I SCANNED THE PATTERN AND SAW NO ADDITIONAL ACFT. THE RADIO DID NOT INDICATE ANY ACTIVITY. I SPECIFICALLY LOOKED AT THE COLLECTION OF SAILPLANES ON THE FAR SIDE OF THE END OF 32 AND SAW THAT THERE WAS A TOW PLANE THERE, BUT IT WAS NOT MOVING. FROM THAT DISTANCE I DID NOT NOTICE WHETHER ITS ENG WAS RUNNING OR WHETHER A SAILPLANE WAS ATTACHED TO IT. I ANNOUNCED MY DEP ON 36, ROLLED ONTO THE RWY, AND W/O STOPPING STARTED MY TKOF ROLL. MY ATTN WAS THEN STRAIGHT AHEAD. JUST AT OR AFTER I ROTATED, I MUST HAVE SEEN SOMETHING OUT OF THE CORNER OF MY EYE AS I GLANCED RIGHT AND SAW THE TOW PLANE SLIGHTLY BEHIND ABEAM ALSO ON ITS TKOF ROLL. THE PICTURE I SAW AS I REMEMBER IT WAS OF LOOKING DOWN SLIGHTLY ON ITS WINGS, IT WAS A HIGH-WING PLANE, AT VERY ROUGHLY 300' HORIZ DISTANCE. I THEREFORE ASSUME THAT I WAS JUST AIRBORNE AT THE TIME. IT WAS EITHER STILL ON THE GND OR JUST ABOVE THE GND. I DID NOT SEE A SAILPLANE BUT I ASSUMED THAT ONE WAS THERE. I WENT INTO A MAX ANGLE CLB AND MADE A SLIGHT TURN TO THE LEFT TO DELAY THE INTXN OF OUR PATHS. I ASSUME THAT I PASSED ABOVE HIM BTWN 100 AND 200'. IN THE MAX ANGLE CLB CONFIGN IN A LOW WING AIRPLANE, I COULD NOT SEE BELOW ME. I CONTINUED IN THIS ATTITUDE UNTIL I HAD REACHED APPROX 500' AGL. I THEN RECONFIGURED FOR A MAX RATE CLB AND LOOKED TO MY LEFT WHERE I SAW THE TOW PLANE AND ITS TOW ABOUT 1/4 MI AWAY OPERATING NORMALLY. AT NO TIME DURING THIS EVENT DID I HEAR ANY RADIO COMS FROM THE TOW PLANE. I AM NOT EVEN SURE THAT HE WAS AWARE OF THE SITUATION. SHORTLY AFTERWARD,I THOUGHT I DID HEAR DSV UNICOM ANNOUNCE THAT THE ACTIVE RWY WAS 32, BUT IT WAS GARBLED.
