Narrative:

We were cleared to taxi to runway 3. I was quite familiar with the fargo airport but had never used runway 3. I had always been cleared to taxi to runway 35 without any instructions to taxi down any runways but every time we have gotten there by taxiing down runway 3. I got so used to using runway 3 as a taxiway that when the wind was strong and favoring the runway 3 we decided to use it. We taxied onto 3 as there are no txwys to it and no red identifying runway signs at the intersection of taxiway G2 and 3. There is the yellow taxiway type sign that is at the G2 runway 3 intersection. I think this type of situation can be avoided by the ground control always clearing traffic to taxi to runway 35 via runway 3 or taxi to runway 3 and hold short at runway 3. Also a red runway identifying sign at the intersection would be helpful.
