Narrative:

Air carrier was climbing to cruise altitude north of sgf on J105. Mlt was level at FL350 wbound and crossing air carrier's route of flight. I monitored air carrier's rate of climb for several minutes and concluded that he would be level well before crossing with mlt at FL360. Air carrier's rate of climb fell off drastically and, although both aircraft were issued turns, they closed to 3.8 mi and 1400'.
