Narrative:

My student and I were practicing touch and go's at X41. There was much traffic in the pattern that day and me and my student were on downwind for runway 8 and by use of unicom and visibility indications were trying to figure out what # we were for the runway. When we thought that we were cleared for touch and go, we discovered that while on final for runway 8 that we had cut another plane off ahead of us and he was 100-150' below us. He went around and we landed. This conflict could have been avoided by better scanning of the traffic pattern.
