Narrative:

During climb; ATC asked where we were navigating to. The first officer said gve. We were told that wasn't on our route. ATC then cleared us to vxv and asked what our filed route was. The flight continued without any other inquiries from ATC. I then looked at the pre departure clearance and noticed a change from our filed route. The change was -fluky DCA246 pauki mol- whereas we were filed -gve J42 mol. I; the captain; need to verify and cross check everything. Just because I'm on reduced rest doesn't excuse me of this important step. As a crew; we could have done a better job of communicating the changes to the pre departure clearance.
