Narrative:

Small aircraft Y departed chesaning woodside airport 12/tue/88 approximately XA00 pm on a VFR flight to oakland troy airport. Flint and detroit radar was used. Upon arrival at troy I flew a regulation traffic pattern. Small aircraft Y did not enter abeam midpoint or runway when I first spotted small aircraft Y. It did not appear to be in the traffic pattern at troy because of its distance from the airport and flying at higher than pattern altitude. I do believe pilot of small aircraft Y should demonstrate regulation pattern entry procedures to an FAA examiner.

Title: NONSTANDARD VFR TRAFFIC PATTERN ENTRY CAUSES AIRBORNE CONFLICT.

Narrative: SMA Y DEPARTED CHESANING WOODSIDE ARPT 12/TUE/88 APPROX XA00 PM ON A VFR FLT TO OAKLAND TROY ARPT. FLINT AND DETROIT RADAR WAS USED. UPON ARR AT TROY I FLEW A REG TFC PATTERN. SMA Y DID NOT ENTER ABEAM MIDPOINT OR RWY WHEN I FIRST SPOTTED SMA Y. IT DID NOT APPEAR TO BE IN THE TFC PATTERN AT TROY BECAUSE OF ITS DISTANCE FROM THE ARPT AND FLYING AT HIGHER THAN PATTERN ALT.
