Narrative:
I landed at ZZZ; an unfamiliar airport; to attend a meeting of a flight organization. Upon landing I was directed to transient parking on the east side of the runway on which I had arrived. My destination was a building located on the west side of the runway. I went (walking) to the approach end [(opposite end)] of the runway and noted no traffic taxiing in; in the pattern; approaching or landing. I crossed the end of the runway and subsequently met airport personnel. I was requested to give salient information.the only controlled airports to which I fly all direct me to an FBO for parking near my destination. I did not specifically state my destination; which in retrospect was my error. In the future I will be sure to limit my parking to areas so designated.
