Narrative:

We were cleared to taxi to runway 1 via november and kilo. While on kilo we were cleared on to juliet to 1. I looked to the left; just then the first officer tried to get my attention and then he got on the brakes and stopped the aircraft. A commuter was being pushed out of its spot. If the first officer did not get on the brakes we might have hit the aircraft. The wing walker was telling the tug driver to stop; but the driver was very slow in responding. When we stopped we heard a load crash. We checked with the flight attendant and she said she had fallen but was ok. We told ground about aircraft pushing in front of us and continued to taxi. We pulled into the block of 1 and asked the flight attendant if she was ok. She said she was ok. At the top of descent we checked again she said she was ok but sore. At our destination a paramedic checked and she had a knot on her head and here ankle was three or four times its normal size. The paramedic sent her to the hospital. The aircraft was taxing at the proper speed and the crew was looking out the window. We never heard ground advise us that the commuter was pushing on an active taxiway. At that time no checklists were being done. It could have been worse; if the first officer did not react and get on the brakes. In my briefings I tell the first officer to get on the brakes if it looks like we might hit something. And to speak up if something does not look right.
