Narrative:
A C350 called me on ground control to pick up his IFR clearance. I read the clearance correctly with the rightturn 1 departure. However when the pilot read the clearance back he read 'right turn' on departure instead of [the] rightturn 1 departure. In the read back it sounded very similar so I said that the read back was correct. On departure the pilot did not fly the rightturn 1 departure. Recommendation: develop a less ambiguous departure name.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: VGT Controller described a wrong departure procedure by an IFR aircraft assigned the 'Rightturn 1' departure (SID); and suggested the Rightturn 1 SID leads to confusion.
