Narrative:

Aircraft had MEL item 21-25. Write up was 'fwd cabin inoperative light and EICAS message.' item was deferred by maintenance and signed off 'accomplished mpm.' prior to departure; I quickly checked 757 MEL and noted the only procedure was that the zone temp control switch must be off and it was. After airborne; I decided to look at this item again as I was unsure which option (1 or 2) had been used. I noted that either option required the pulling and collaring of certain circuit breakers none of which were pulled. The alternative was to 'verify the affected trim valve is in the full closed position' and if closed proceed to step C. Step C required a balancing entry on the position of the valve. There was no balancing entry. Step D required a specific placard 'do not operate - leave off'. This placard was not installed. I sent an ACARS fmr code requesting maintenance meet the aircraft. They met the aircraft; were briefed on the situation and fully concurred. They verified the position of the valve and corrected the paperwork as best they could. They did a great job and had great attitudes. Nice work to them. 757 MEL pg intro-10 para 3.1.B states that the 'captain is responsible for compliance with all (O) procedures' and maintenance for all (M) procedures. This was the 6th flight with this aircraft with an improper logbook sign-off due to the mpm (M) procedures not being followed.
