Narrative:

Left AC gen fail light illuminated and the switch was reset per the proper abnormal checklist. The gen fail light remained illuminated and the switch was placed in the off position. F/a reported smoke from the left engine and first officer visually verified fire damage at the AC gen exhaust port. Flight crew shut the left engine down, pulled the fire t-handle and left fire extinguisher was activated. Kansas city center was notified, and the flight was diverted to springfield, mo. Aircraft landing was made uneventful with fire trucks standing by. The fire was visually verified out, and passengers were removed through the main cabin door. NTSB is currently investigating this incident.

Title: ACR LTT GENERATOR FAILURE FIRE. EMERGENCY LNDG.

Narrative: LEFT AC GEN FAIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE SWITCH WAS RESET PER THE PROPER ABNORMAL CHKLIST. THE GEN FAIL LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE SWITCH WAS PLACED IN THE OFF POS. F/A RPTED SMOKE FROM THE L ENG AND F/O VISUALLY VERIFIED FIRE DAMAGE AT THE AC GEN EXHAUST PORT. FLT CREW SHUT THE L ENG DOWN, PULLED THE FIRE T-HANDLE AND LEFT FIRE EXTINGUISHER WAS ACTIVATED. KANSAS CITY CENTER WAS NOTIFIED, AND THE FLT WAS DIVERTED TO SPRINGFIELD, MO. ACFT LNDG WAS MADE UNEVENTFUL WITH FIRE TRUCKS STANDING BY. THE FIRE WAS VISUALLY VERIFIED OUT, AND PAXS WERE REMOVED THROUGH THE MAIN CABIN DOOR. NTSB IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THIS INCIDENT.
