Narrative:

The fwd/aft cargo det 1 or 2 status message procedure referenced in the 757/767 flight manual (FM) limits section is nowhere to be found in the 767 QRH. It is in the FM non-normals section; but in the index for the FM non-normals; it is under 'south' for status message--not under 'F' for fwd; 'a' for aft; or 'C' for cargo; which is where many of us might look. In the content list for the FM warning section; where it is located; this checklist is listed as being on 14.150.4; when it is in fact on 14.150.5. This is one of those situations which has the potential to be fatal; should the status message go unnoticed; or if the possible fire is aggressive; the procedure should be in the 767 QRH; and not buried in the FM so deep it takes 10 minutes simply to locate the checklist. It took me at least that; and we were in uneventful cruise flight under no duress whatever. Safety! Where has that philosophy gone?
