Narrative:
Working B737-900 aircraft during #2 service check; [pylon] panels and engine cowlings were removed for [access to] the left and right harness sense connectors and wire inspection. Once inspection was completed; panels and cowlings were ok'd to re-install. I started on right side [of engine] and installed panels and cowlings; than moved to the left side and closed opened panels and cowlings on that side. On the following day; I was notified that aircraft had a gate return due to the panel having loose fasteners. Participated in a fact finding and reviewed computer-based maintenance training (cbt) and videos.

Title: A Line Mechanic was informed he failed to secure an upper pylon panel on a B737-900 aircraft after completion of a Engine/Pylon Harness Inspection. A passenger had noticed an upper pylon panel had 'bounced' during their pushback from the gate and informed the Flight Attendant. Aircraft returned to gate and panel secured.
