Narrative:

During outstation maintenance troubleshooting of the reason for this problem; it was noted that the # 1 primary flight displays (pfd) display cooling fan/check valve was installed backwards; causing air to flow the opposite direction from the intake filter when the fan was turned on. Fan was [originally] changed to clear an MEL two days earlier. Outstation mechanic removed fan and reinstalled in the proper orientation. [Have] no suggestions other than the obvious - take care when changing a part. Four primary flight displays (pfds) had red lights on; diverted into ZZZ1.

Title: A Maintenance Controller reports four Flight Displays (F/Ds) had red lights illuminated in-flight on a CRJ-900 aircraft. Number One Display Cooling Fan had been previously replaced to clear an MEL; but later found incorrectly installed with fan air flowing in the wrong direction. Flight crew diverted.
