Narrative:

During cruise we smelled an acrid odor with no smoke coming from the top of the dash above the MCP panel; two times for less than a minute per event. The first officer and I consulted the fom and determined; with dispatch and maintenance concurrence; that we could continue to destination so long as we did not see any smoke or recurrence of odor. We had many alternates with good weather along our route. We continued to destination with no other issues. We learned afterward that the window heat contact was defective and was replaced.
