Narrative:

Descending for landing at standiford field, ky. We were at 10000' and told by approach control to descend to 2500'. At about 5 mi south of iiu VOR, we were given traffic at 11 O'clock and 5 mi, sebnd at 3000' and turn right to 030 degrees which I acknowledged. Shortly after turning to 030 degrees and as we were approaching 3000' I saw the small transport traffic at 11 O'clock on a collision course at pulled back on the yoke taking the aircraft momentarily from the copilot who was flying at the time. I would estimate the small transport passed under us at less than 50'. I spoke to the supervisor of this facility and he informed me that after reviewing the tape, he was processing this as a system error. Even though this may be classified as a system error since the small transport was in the arsa and talking to approach control, I feel I could have avoided this situation by reducing or increasing our rate of descent. I normally maintain more positional awareness of surrounding traffic in known areas. The only excuse I can offer is fatigue. We had just finished a 16 hour duty day followed by reduced rest of 8 hour which does not include transportation. Supplemental information from acn 94984: I did not hear the traffic report. The controller could have held us at 4000'. I should have been listening closer and I would have leveled at 4000' myself. I should have been looking outside more.

Title: CLOSE PROX ACR-COMMUTER GA-SMT IN SDF ARSA.

Narrative: DSNDING FOR LNDG AT STANDIFORD FIELD, KY. WE WERE AT 10000' AND TOLD BY APCH CTL TO DSND TO 2500'. AT ABOUT 5 MI S OF IIU VOR, WE WERE GIVEN TFC AT 11 O'CLOCK AND 5 MI, SEBND AT 3000' AND TURN RIGHT TO 030 DEGS WHICH I ACKNOWLEDGED. SHORTLY AFTER TURNING TO 030 DEGS AND AS WE WERE APCHING 3000' I SAW THE SMT TFC AT 11 O'CLOCK ON A COLLISION COURSE AT PULLED BACK ON THE YOKE TAKING THE ACFT MOMENTARILY FROM THE COPLT WHO WAS FLYING AT THE TIME. I WOULD ESTIMATE THE SMT PASSED UNDER US AT LESS THAN 50'. I SPOKE TO THE SUPVR OF THIS FAC AND HE INFORMED ME THAT AFTER REVIEWING THE TAPE, HE WAS PROCESSING THIS AS A SYS ERROR. EVEN THOUGH THIS MAY BE CLASSIFIED AS A SYS ERROR SINCE THE SMT WAS IN THE ARSA AND TALKING TO APCH CTL, I FEEL I COULD HAVE AVOIDED THIS SITUATION BY REDUCING OR INCREASING OUR RATE OF DSCNT. I NORMALLY MAINTAIN MORE POSITIONAL AWARENESS OF SURROUNDING TFC IN KNOWN AREAS. THE ONLY EXCUSE I CAN OFFER IS FATIGUE. WE HAD JUST FINISHED A 16 HR DUTY DAY FOLLOWED BY REDUCED REST OF 8 HR WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE TRANSPORTATION. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 94984: I DID NOT HEAR THE TFC RPT. THE CTLR COULD HAVE HELD US AT 4000'. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN LISTENING CLOSER AND I WOULD HAVE LEVELED AT 4000' MYSELF. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN LOOKING OUTSIDE MORE.
