Narrative:

I was training a developmental on high altitude arrival sector. The trainee advised the pilot of the current ATIS code. The pilot did not advise he had the code. The aircraft was handed off to the arrival sector; cleared visual approach and switched to the tower. The aircraft landed in the overrun area of the left runway. The runway is undergoing construction so most of it is closed. The aircraft did not land in the construction area just in the overrun area just short of the new displaced threshold. Recommendation; ensure pilot have the current ATIS code.
