Narrative:

I was working as the facility controller in charge when the commercial telephone rang. A pilot idented himself as planning to come to mgm; but said columbia AFSS could not give him our current WX or forecast and he wondered if I could. I gave him our current observation and advised him that we are not provided with a taf. He asked if the WX was improving or worsening. I told him it was improving since we had been reporting light snow. Poor pilot briefing system if the AFSS system can't access current reports for preflight planning. I am not a trained WX briefer. This is why we have AFSS.
