Narrative:

After boarding; I saw the pilots coming and going from the cockpit. There were also several maintenance personnel at the tail section of the aircraft. I was then told that a ramp agent had spotted a hole in the vertical stabilizer of our plane. After a few minutes; we got information that the flight had been canceled; and the passenger were deplaned. It was very disconcerting to find out that there was a hole the size of an orange in the stabilizer when we had just flown a 3 1/2 hour flight. We deadheaded back to our base and went into the chief pilot's office and voiced our concerns.
