Narrative:
First officer performed takeoff. At rotation; the right engine failed with accompanying bang; rollback; and high egt. No birds were noticed at time of rotation. First officer maintained excellent aircraft control and alignment while climbing to 1;000 ft. Checklist was performed in accordance with QRH. Aircraft weight at time of incident was 118;000 pounds. Landed with 110;000 pounds with approval of dispatch [with] uneventful landing by captain. After aircraft inspection by emergency crew; we taxied back to the gate and deplaned the passengers.

Title: B717 Captain reports engine failure right at rotation with the First Officer flying. Flight returns for an overweight landing with the Captain at the controls.
Narrative: First Officer performed takeoff. At rotation; the right engine failed with accompanying bang; rollback; and high EGT. No birds were noticed at time of rotation.
