While on decent a flight attendant called flight deck thinking there was someone in lavatory smoking. Called back and said smoke in cabin. Captain flew emergency diversion to closest airport stopping on runway. Open cockpit door no visible smoke taxied to ramp. Stairs brought up to aircraft had passengers go down stairs. Crew went to hospital for check up. Smoke in cabin from unknown source. Flight attendants did great job with passengers. An older woman went to the hospital for chest pains. When discharged from hospital should have followed up on her condition.
