Narrative:

FAA suddenly and west/O warning or advance notice to users, eliminated remote altimeter setting option (ie, using travis AFB setting) at sonoma county airport (sts) in santa rosa, ca. Due to preponderance of evening marine cloud layer, sts is now effectively closed to IFR approachs when ATC tower is closed (2000 lt--0700 lt). Sts users must now use sts only in visual conditions, in some cases the temptation to sneak up the petaluma valley, under a low overcast at night may overpwr a pilot's better judgement. It is strongly suggested that sts' IFR approach capability be reinstated as soon as possible!
