Narrative:

I was at the gate at syracuse and had started the engines of the aircraft and was awaiting the wave off signal from the mechanic who had given me the startup signal. All checklists and preparations were completed and the mechanic gave me the wave off and taxi signals. On starting the taxi and subsequent right turn as per his signal, I felt the contact with the jetway and immediately stopped. He looked at the jetway and realized what had occurred and then gave me a stop signal. I shut down the engines and assessed the damage. The flight was cancelled. I feel that this occurrence was entirely preventable, as apparently the mechanic was the only one giving the taxi signals and also had the responsibility of checking the aircraft clearance with the jetway. Having another person to check the wingtip for him would have helped greatly. Supplemental information from acn 94214. Since this is the 4TH wingtip incident for this particular gate in syr, it is apparent there is some problem with either the gate placement or procedure to get out of this gate.

Title: ACR MLG HIT JETWAY TAXIING AWAY FROM THE GATE AT SYR.

Narrative: I WAS AT THE GATE AT SYRACUSE AND HAD STARTED THE ENGS OF THE ACFT AND WAS AWAITING THE WAVE OFF SIGNAL FROM THE MECH WHO HAD GIVEN ME THE STARTUP SIGNAL. ALL CHKLISTS AND PREPARATIONS WERE COMPLETED AND THE MECH GAVE ME THE WAVE OFF AND TAXI SIGNALS. I SHUT DOWN THE ENGS AND ASSESSED THE DAMAGE. THE FLT WAS CANCELLED. I FEEL THAT THIS OCCURRENCE WAS ENTIRELY PREVENTABLE, AS APPARENTLY THE MECH WAS THE ONLY ONE GIVING THE TAXI SIGNALS AND ALSO HAD THE RESPONSIBILITY OF CHKING THE ACFT CLRNC WITH THE JETWAY. HAVING ANOTHER PERSON TO CHK THE WINGTIP FOR HIM WOULD HAVE HELPED GREATLY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 94214. SINCE THIS IS THE 4TH WINGTIP INCIDENT FOR THIS PARTICULAR GATE IN SYR, IT IS APPARENT THERE IS SOME PROB WITH EITHER THE GATE PLACEMENT OR PROC TO GET OUT OF THIS GATE.
