Narrative:

Departed dtw heading 360. At 1;000 AGL called for the after takeoff checklist. Just at that moment got handoff by tower to departure. While doing the after takeoff check we hit some residual wake turbulence. We continued the climb to meet the altitude restriction they have out of dtw. When going through roughly 7;000 we got a call from tower to contact departure. We contacted them and turned to the assigned heading. Apparently we had initially got the frequency but to due the distraction of the after takeoff check and the turbulence we hadn't switched.
