Narrative:

We were taxiing in and stopped short of [gate] while a plow truck cleared a path for the spot's centerline. After the plow finished; we were marshaled into the gate. We approached slowly due to the snow and ice on the ramp. As we were given the stop sign by the marshal; I applied the brakes to stop us. Unfortunately we kept sliding. I had the brakes fully depressed and we kept sliding. Then I applied the parking brake and we still slid. The marshal kept telling me to stop but we couldn't. Finally I put the power levers into reverse and we came to a stop. We went about five feet beyond the stop bar during our unwanted slide. After shutdown I went outside and explained to the ramp agents why we didn't stop and notified operations of the nil braking action at our spot. By the time we left the area had been cleared off as much as possible. Suggestions: completely clear off the parking spot and approach path and not just the centerline of the parking spot before aircraft are cleared to marshal in.
