Narrative:

We were level at FL300. The first officer was flying and the autopilot and autothrottles were engaged. Simultaneously and unexpectedly; the AC crosstie lockout light illuminated with the failure of the right engine generator; along with all the associated aural and visual warnings. We declared an emergency while following the QRH AC crosstie lockout light checklist and began a descent. We attempted an unsuccessful reset of the right engine generator. We also attempted to start the APU; which was unsuccessful at that time. With only the left engine generator operating and no battery charger; we diverted to a nearby airport. The APU eventually started when we reached the lower altitudes and we were able to successfully power the right AC bus prior to landing. The remainder of the flight and the landing was uneventful.
