Narrative:

First officer's leg coming into memphis int'l. On final approach first officer called for gear at OM. I called 'gear speed check (160) gear select down vle = 164.' I didn't notice anything (later first officer said he noticed a slight vibration). At 500' I called 500' and first officer called for flaps 50 flows off. A few seconds later we felt a pop on the right side. I thought we had a bird strike. After landing I went out and did a post preflight. I noticed the gear door was missing. Before the flight both my first officer and I preflted the aircraft and found no problems. I don't know why this occurred. All possible preflight actions did take place and no speed limitations were exceeded.
