Narrative:
Departing teb; we briefed the ruudy 2 departure incorrectly; both before start up and on taxi out. Flying pilot and non flying pilot read the initial altitude incorrectly. After takeoff we climbed slowly up to 1;800 ft when the controller asked if we were going to hang out at 1;500 ft a little longer since we were still 2 miles from wentz. We said yes and immediately returned 1;500 ft. Controller sounded nonchalant and no TA; RA nor separation issue was brought up. Flight continued without incident.

Title: A LR60 crew incorrectly briefed the TEB RUUDY 2 SID and purposefully set 2;000 FT as the initial level off altitude but descended from 1;800 FT after ATC asked them to 'hang out at 1;500 FT.'
