Narrative:

We (C172) were departing ZZZ after being cleared for takeoff from runway xx. ATC (tower) advised citation inbound from the northwest. We responded in-sight. Citation was cleared to land runway xx and acknowledged. Prior to crossing the extended runway centerline; citation abruptly turned inbound for runway yy! They passed off our left wing and never advised tower that we were in sight. Citation was not cleared for landing on runway yy. Elapsed time from citation turn inbound to near miss; approximately 5 seconds.

Title: C172 pilot reports NMAC with a Citation shortly after takeoff when that aircraft makes an abrupt right turn toward the reciprocal runway. The Citation was cleared to enter a right downwind and land on the same runway that the C172 had just departed.

Narrative: We (C172) were departing ZZZ after being cleared for takeoff from Runway XX. ATC (Tower) advised Citation inbound from the northwest. We responded in-sight. Citation was cleared to land Runway XX and acknowledged. Prior to crossing the extended runway centerline; Citation abruptly turned inbound for Runway YY! They passed off our left wing and never advised Tower that we were in sight. Citation was not cleared for landing on Runway YY. Elapsed time from Citation turn inbound to near miss; approximately 5 seconds.
