Narrative:

Climbing out of 10;000 ft autopilot on; number 1 generator failed. Got ECAM; autopilot and autothrust went off. Captain told me to fly the airplane and he accomplished ECAM procedures. Generator 1 came back online for about 20 seconds than failed again. This particular generator had a history of malfunctions and contract maintenance had cleared a write up just before we left. Captain started the APU and we decided with the maintenance history we would return since we were only about 35 miles away. We did not declare an emergency since we had two generators working one being the APU. We returned for an uneventful landing.
