Narrative:

Atl has a procedure for taking off on 9L at intersection M2. Our airline has a procedure for verifying the runway of takeoff. The problem is that atl has 9 parallel pieces of pavement and there is no runway marking for 9L at M2 on the runway. I am familiar with atl but a lot of pilots that come there are not; especially on a dark rainy night. It couldn't be that hard to either paint 9L further down the runway or put a lighted sign beside the takeoff position on the runway. (This was one of the contributing factors of the comair accident in lex.) this problem also occurs on runways with displaced thresholds. You sometimes can't totally confirm the correct runway until about V1; and you are pretty busy at that time in the takeoff roll. I do confirm my heading when in position but with numerous airports with parallel runways and intersection or displaced threshold takeoffs; this really isn't of that much use.
