Narrative:

Aircraft took off from phx close to maximum gross weight, temperature 96 degrees F, 113 passenger. During climb out at 7000' MSL tail compartment overheat light illuminated. First officer accomplished immediate action items as specified by company emergency procedures. Captain declared emergency. As result of checklist procedures, warning light was extinguished. Overweight landing was made on runway 26R with the captain flying. Normal taxi and deplaning of passenger took place. The only discrepancy in this whole episode is that the F/a's failed to respond properly to the 4 bell signal from the captain, meaning to come to the cockpit immediately.
