Narrative:

We were given an aircraft and an overhauled engine with new parts to install onto engine. We installed the engine and parts. The plane went on a test flight and upon retracting the gear after take off; the pilot then saw the oil warning light and landed the airplane. Upon inspection; the nose landing gear had pushed open the quick drain valve. The drain valve was given to the mechanic by the aircraft owner to be installed and was the wrong type.

Title: A Lead Mechanic with an Inspection Authorization (IA) rating; reports about an overhauled engine and new parts they were given to install in a Piper Cherokee Arrow. Upon retracting the gear; pilot saw the 'Oil Warning' light and returned to airport.
