Narrative:

Early morning departure. Departure and initial climbout were uneventful. We then switched over to departure and continued our climb. At 2;800 ft MSL; the 'oil' warning annunciator light illuminated. I then cross-checked with the 'oil pressure' gauge; which had fallen completely dead. We then immediately turned the aircraft back toward the field; reported 'we have negative oil pressure' to departure; and made an uneventful landing back at my departure airport with some engine power available.
