Narrative:

Landed on runway 30 and turned off at Q2. Needed to go to a concourse delta gate. Ground cleared us on 'north' hold short of 'west' due to opposite direction airplane being towed. As we approached 'west'; we were cleared to join 'M' and taxi unrestricted to spot 5 for our gate. I turned right on N7 to cross 'north' and in to the ramp. Once we started the turn; we were able to see a 757 taxiing on 'north'. I abruptly applied brakes and stopped before entering 'north' and the 757 stopped short of N7. Ground finally noticed and had us hold while the 757 continued on 'north' to its gate. We were then cleared to continue to spot 5. I believe the 757 was in the holding pad on 'Y' when we passed him and must have been cleared on 'north' after the aircraft in tow cleared. Both aircraft stopped in time; but was a potential disaster.

Narrative: Landed on Runway 30 and turned off at Q2. Needed to go to a concourse Delta gate. Ground cleared us on 'N' hold short of 'W' due to opposite direction airplane being towed. Once we started the turn; we were able to see a 757 taxiing on 'N'. I abruptly applied brakes and stopped before entering 'N' and the 757 stopped short of N7.
