Narrative:
At spot 10 called and received clearance to taxi to runway 28R via B; F; hold short runway 1L. Aircraft was in motion at this point; just approaching taxiway sign that identified the taxiway on which we were rolling as B. This taxiway was in actuality a transition piece from B to a; so we ended up on a. There were no safety implications here--after the recent schedule drawdowns and furloughs; the ramp was as sparsely populated as an ethics class at company headquarters. When we realized our error we called for and received clearance to return to B via another transition piece.
