Upon flap retraction; received le slat disagree EICAS and le slat amber light. Ran le slat disagree irregular checklist. [We] called dispatch and maintenance [and] agreed to divert. [We] declared emergency; [made] cabin advisory to flight attendants; [and] checked irregular configuration landing performance. [We] landed using alternate flap irregular procedure. Te flaps position 20; ref 30 + 30. [We had an] uneventful landing and taxied to gate without further assistance.

Title: B757 Flight Crew experiences Leading Edge Slat Disagree EICAS message after takeoff and elects to divert to an airport with a longer runway for landing. Emergency is declared and the QRH complied with before a flaps 20 landing ensues.
