Narrative:

On our takeoff climb from clt our clearance was to fly runway heading and climb to 5000'. At approximately 3500' we were given a right turn to 270 degrees. Shortly thereafter we were then instructed to continue our climb to 17000'. As we passed through 6200' we then noticed our close proximity to an inbound large transport who was in level flight at 6000'. No evasive action was necessary. In my estimation we were 200' above and approximately 2500' horizontal. Supplemental information from acn 89311: the controller listened to the recorder and told us he had picked up the wrong strip. (We were cleared to climb to 17000' by mistake.)
