Narrative:

On climbout; flaps 5; we were given a 120 degree turn just as the first officer called for flaps 1. Immediately we encountered a patch of wake turbulence and the airspeed shot rapidly up to 237 KTS. The first officer pulled the nose up and got the airspeed back under control. Due to the lack of training on the new instrument display; we both were struggling to interpret the flap limitations as displayed on the airspeed indicator; and we both commented that if we had an old round dial this incident probably would not have happened. We wrote up the event on arrival.
