Narrative:

I was conducting flight training in a P46T jetprop dlx (turbine malibu). We were doing pattern work (takeoffs and landings) on the favored runway and the wind conditions were gusty. We were landing with reduced flaps (10 degrees). Just before touchdown; the airspeed decayed suddenly and the airplane developed a high sink rate; which we were not able to arrest. The airplane hit the runway hard and the left tire blew out; however; we maintained control of the airplane and we kept it on the runway. The left landing gear was damaged (bent axle) and there was some damage to the left wing (some wrinkled skins). There were no injuries of any sort. The airplane was flown out by me with a ferry permit; where repairs will be carried out. Even though we believed to have sufficient airspeed; this incident could have been prevented by further increasing the airspeed on final to compensate for the gusty conditions.
