Narrative:

During a straight in approach to calistoga runway 28 unicom did not respond to traffic/field advisory request. Due to being unfamiliar with the airport and terrain the landing was aborted. So we circled to land. Making a right climbing turn to avoid high terrain on the west side of the airport. Returned for landing. BFR: issued a new us certificate in frankfurt march 1988.

Title: NONSTANDARD TRAFFIC PATTERN ENTRY AT NON TWR ARPT RESULTS IN GO AROUND.

Narrative: DURING A STRAIGHT IN APCH TO CALISTOGA RWY 28 UNICOM DID NOT RESPOND TO TFC/FIELD ADVISORY REQUEST. DUE TO BEING UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT AND TERRAIN THE LNDG WAS ABORTED. SO WE CIRCLED TO LAND. MAKING A RIGHT CLIMBING TURN TO AVOID HIGH TERRAIN ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE ARPT. RETURNED FOR LNDG. BFR: ISSUED A NEW U.S. CERTIFICATE IN FRANKFURT MARCH 1988.
