Narrative:
On departure; at approximately 10;000 ft; right engine started to compressor stall. Complied with procedure. Compressor stall ceased as soon as right throttle was retarded. Declared an emergency with ATC; ran checklist; informed flight attendants and then the passengers. Requested return; and landed uneventfully with right throttle at idle. Shut down right engine after clearing runway. Arff looked over right engine; no problems noted. Taxied back to gate.

Title: MD80 flight crew experienced right engine compressor stalls passing 10000 feet during climb. Crew declared an emergency and returned to the departure airport with the right engine at idle.
Narrative: On departure; at approximately 10;000 FT; right engine started to compressor stall. Complied with procedure. Compressor stall ceased as soon as right throttle was retarded.
