Narrative:

During training on the combined right and D positions on vuh/org (68/23); air carrier X turned unexpectedly after lch towards mcb. The trainee noted the change in the route and questioned the pilot on his clearance. After some discussion with the pilot on where he got his clearance he was re-cleared direct mcb and handed off. The incident was reported to the supervisor. This is one of a number of similar incidents recently along the same route out of iah; mainly by foreign carriers going across the atlantic. The language difference may be a contributing factor to these incidents. Recommendation; unsure on any recommendation other than for all parties to pay closer attention when issuing and receiving clearances; especially with foreign pilots.
