Narrative:

We were cleared for takeoff runway 1L at sfo. We taxied into position at runway 1L and taxiway hotel and departed. Tower told us we had departed at taxiway hotel and we realized this was not the end of the runway. Runway 1L has a displaced threshold for landing so at taxiway hotel all the paint and runway number markings made us think this was the end for departure but it is 500 ft down from the departure end. I think that with a displaced threshold like this; tower should clear you for takeoff that the intersection that is appropriate such as 'cleared for takeoff runway 1L at taxiway mike;' not just 'cleared for takeoff runway 1L.'

Title: A Cargo First Officer reported departing SFO Runway 1L from intersection 'H' because they did not realize the runway markings at 'H' are the displaced threshold. The crew suggested that ATC clarify the Runway 1L departure point instructions.
