Narrative:

98% of the time we run nothing but visual approaches to palm springs due to the good weather. However; when the weather gets bad; we are forced to use approaches that I am now familiar with. It is rare to get IFR weather in palm springs; but it will occur in the winter time. In this incident; I had aircraft arriving into palm springs that could not get the airport in sight. Recommendation; we need specific training before winter time on the various approaches into the palm springs; thermal; and bermuda dunes airports. I realize that my narrative makes me look stupid; trust me; I'm not. I've been doing this job for many years without an oe (operation error); od (operation deviation) or any other blemish on my career. We need additional training on IFR weather procedures for the palm springs area.
