Narrative:
During graveyard shift; I was assigned to a B737-500 aircraft; at which time temperatures were below freezing and wind chills below 20 degrees. During these extremely cold temperatures; I was working on the number two engine ignitor plug replacement and ignition lead inspection. I was working quickly due to the weather. Upon completion of the work while trying to avoid further exposure to the cold weather; I inadvertently missed reconnecting the exciter boxes to the ignition cables. While in the cockpit to perform the pop check; I sat in the left seat and opened the window to listen and apparently performed the pop check on the incorrect engine. At the same time I became aware of this issue; the dayshift crew had already identified and corrected the problem.
