Narrative:
Upon departure from runway 26L at atl behind an A320; we encountered severe wake turbulence during the initial climb. Within the span of only a couple of seconds; the aircraft rolled an estimated 45 to 60 degrees to the right. I applied left rudder and the aircraft returned to level flight. We continued the flight and experienced no abnormal flight characteristics. Upon arrival; I requested maintenance inspection due the abrupt and momentary loss of positive aircraft control.
