Narrative:

Assigned pomona 1 departure SID from ont, third leg of day. First officer and I discussed crossing restriction of 'at or above 3800'' at VOR, entirely missed restriction of 'at or below 7000'.' neither first officer nor I have been into this area in many months. Combined with clutter of commercial chart depiction, just didn't see restriction. Crossing VOR center queried our altitude (approximately 8600') and advised of 7000' restriction. Immediately descended, crossing karen at approximately 7500' and resumed climb. Center did not advise of any traffic conflict.
